SPHERA Sostenible Joins Forces with Years Design Studio
SPHERA Sostenible has collaborated with the innovative Los Angeles-based design studio, Years, to construct a sustainable residence in Nosara, Costa Rica. This remarkable project has been featured in the May 2024 issue of Architectural Digest, highlighting its innovative design and sustainable features to embrace the challenges and beauty of the Costa Rican jungle.
Facing the harsh climatic realities of Nosara, where the rainy season stretches over seven months annually, the project team has integrated advanced sustainable features that respect and enhance the local environment. The home, articulated by Years with local architect Jean Andre Garnier of Garnier Arquitectos, features robust materials and design elements tailored to withstand the relentless humidity and salt air, frequent termite visits, and occasional power outages inherent to the region.
The project showcases a variety of sustainable practices, including the use of solar power, black and gray water irrigation systems, and rainwater collection for non-potable uses. These features underscore Costa Rica's dedication to sustainability and biodiversity conservation, aligning perfectly with the country's environmental policies.

The residence boasts an array of custom-designed elements, from the hand-chiseled stone and terra-cotta screens to locally sourced teak and bespoke furniture pieces crafted by Costa Rican artisans. These elements not only underline the home's unique identity but also celebrate Latin American craftsmanship.
